About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance back-end services that support the platform’s core pricing and eligibility functionality. This role requires deep expertise in C#, .NET, Azure, complex business logic, and system performance, while also providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers.

Key Responsibilities

General

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance back-end services using C#, modern .NET, ASP.NET Core, and Microsoft Azure.

  • Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, security, and database efficiency to support complex, high-volume workloads.

  • Model and maintain complex business logic while applying appropriate design patterns and architectural solutions.

  • Plan, develop, test, and document changes, including implementation approaches, test evidence, impact analysis, and QA handoff details.

  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, conduct thorough code reviews, and leverage AI-assisted development tools while maintaining accountability for code quality and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with Product, QA, and Engineering teams throughout the development lifecycle while mentoring other developers and contributing to technical standards and best practices.

Key Performance Indicators

Within your first ninety days, you can deliver meaningful changes to complex logic without close supervision, and you can explain the performance implications of what you built. Within your first year, you are a trusted reviewer on the hardest parts of the codebase, you have measurably improved the performance or maintainability of areas you own, and other engineers come to you when a problem is genuinely difficult.

Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on the Microsoft stack.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Deep proficiency in C# and modern .NET, including asynchronous programming, concurrency, and memory behavior. We are looking for someone who understands what the runtime is doing, not only how to make the compiler happy.
  • Demonstrated experience with application performance engineering. Profiling and benchmarking, finding and fixing bottlenecks, reasoning about algorithmic complexity, and reducing allocation and query overhead in code that runs at volume.
  • Strong command of design patterns, domain modeling, and separation of concerns, with the judgment to know when a pattern adds value and when it adds ceremony.
  • Substantial experience with ASP.NET Core and RESTful API design and implementation.
  • Strong SQL Server skills covering schema design, indexing, and query performance tuning. You should be able to read an execution plan.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Azure, including compute, managed data services, caching, and Azure DevOps.

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience with high throughput, low latency, or calculation-intensive systems.
  • Experience with distributed caching, messaging, and event-driven patterns.
  • Any prior exposure to AI coding assistants in a professional codebase. This is a plus, not a requirement, and we will invest in developing it if you are curious and rigorous about it.
  • Test-driven development and automated testing approaches beyond basic unit tests, including property-based or invariant testing for calculation-heavy logic.
  • Experience with cloud native deployment and containerization.
  • Experience in financial services or another regulated industry a plus.
